Something tells me we as a Nation were IDIOTS for not paying attention to a warning such as this from a former 5 Star General and hero of World War II turned President of the United States.

She was superb. She far outclassed her Republican counterpart (not surprisingly since they have no cogent arguments left to defend Bushco.) But she was so good she actually raised the level of debate on the show and dare I hope, the National Dialogue as well. Enjoy!
DETAINEES... Every time I read, hear or speak that word I want to spit out the bile taste in my mouth. Do you remember how that word became common-day lexicon?Here's a hint... It was when Bush co. (aka Torture Inc.) decided that the word "Prisoner" didn't suit their needs anymore. So they launched a marketing campaign to change the word to 'Detainee' so they would not have to abide by that "antiquated" Geneva Convention thingy or be bound by more than half-century old, Internationally agreed upon Rules for Treatment of Prisoners of War.
Now that's the sign of a great marketing team right there baby...
Don't bother to improve the quality of the product. Don't even need to provide better services... Just RE-BRAND it!
Of course it helps when you have a band of amoral and corrupt enablers and a population so cowed by fear of middle-eastern boogie-men that they have lost the power of introspection or even common sense. As a result they don't see that they are being manipulated by evil men with sinister intent.
Fear is without doubt the most powerful tool for those who wish to commit heinous acts without worry of future judgement. Its the great grand-daddy of all excuses and the penultimate cop-out. "but we were afraid." they sniffled...
I say we start taking our National Dialogue back as of right now--starting with our vocabulary. Let us call a POW a Prisoner of WAR and either try them in a court of law for all the world to see or release them to their families and whatever life they have left--if any.
While we're at it, can we as a Nation stop referring to Iraq as "The War on Terror"? There is NO such thing as a War on Terror. I know this because being ex-military and somewhat of an amateur linguaphile, I know it is not possible to fight a war on a Tactic. (see similar concept of waging war on... "chemical substances, such as narcotics or hallucinogens, that affect the central nervous system, causing changes in behavior and often addiction")
From this moment forward I will never write or spead the terms; "detainee" or "war on terror" again. Unless of course, it is to mock myself as a reminder to never allow myself to be suborned by the dark goals of evil men.
